U.S. Customs and Border Protection reports: CBP Officers Arrest U.S. Citizen on Parole after Marijuana, Scales and Baggies are Discovered in Vehicle
"LEWISTON, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Lewiston port of entry arrested a 23 year-old U.S. citizen found to be in possession of approximately 55 grams of marijuana as well as drug paraphernalia that consisted of scales and glassine baggies."
The young man had made a wrong turn at the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge when CBP made the decision to perform a secondarily inspection of the mans vehicle. Reports do not indicate why the secondary search determination was made. The man, who's name was not indicated in the report was then take into custody resulting from the discovery of the 2 oz of cannabis in his vehicle.
Buffalo Port Director Sharon Swiatek remarked on the incident, “This is also another prime example of our excellent working relationship with our law enforcement partners.”. A background check of the suspect revealed that he was driving on a suspended license and was also on parole for previous non-violent drug charges.
Director Swiatek praised the officers for the abduction of this peaceful citizen stating, “In this case, our CBP officers took the extra steps to identify an individual on parole who was in possession of narcotics,” and who was likely also down on their luck and just trying to rebuild after being abducted in the past for a victimless crime.
