The Holiday season is a glorious time in America. A time of year where we are supposed to give thanks for our freedom,for our families and for all of the blessings we have in our worlds. The media gets going right after Halloween every year pushing the message of family and togetherness with images of families around the dinner table with smiles and bright eyes. This is the image we embrace for a 2 month period at the end of each year and this image gives hope to millions of Americans. But is is false hope?
Tens of thousands of peaceful Americans are caged every year during the holiday season being stripped of their chance to experience that part of the "American Dream" which most would argue is a basic human right in this country. Why are these peaceful people being jailed? How can there be a crime if no victim was involved? One word..... Prohibition.
It's rather unfortunate that I feel the need to express this in writing but the epidemic of caging human beings continues to grow. Separate from non-violent drug arrests, parents who are down on their luck and behind on child support are being thrown behind bars, peaceful people fleeing the violence of their countries too. The list of human rights violations is long but the focus of Platoon 420 is the Drug Wars.
Civilian Platoon will be tracking these non-violent drug arrests through the Holiday Season starting on November 28th and running through the end of the year. Keep in mind, statistically there are 1,800 non-violent drug arrests daily but we can only report what the police and media report which will be a fraction of the total numbers. Arrests will be updated daily HERE
Below is the list for November 28th as of 10:25 am mst all arrested on non-violent drug charges. These names were found during a 10 minute google search over coffee.... surely there are many more to be reported. Most were not able to be with their families and those who were released had to pay 100's to 1,000's of dollars to do so.
