North Carolina man chased and kidnapped over weed

A Charlotte North Carolina man crashed his vehicle into a sign at the Windsor Square shopping center Sunday evening then continued fleeing for his safety on foot following a high speed chase. 36-year-old Brent Edward Rankin was driving through the area of E. Independence Boulevard and Windsor Square Drive when a vehicle that fit the description of the transportation used by Breyona Taylor's murderers began following him. Rankin came to a stop at a nearby gas station when an armed assailant exited the vehicle and began to approach his.

In fear for their safety, the passenger fled on foot as Rankin sped away from the scene striking a gas pump on the way out. The armed individual returned to his vehicle and began chasing Rankin through the otherwise peaceful city streets. Rankin eventually struck a sign at the Windsor Square shopping center where his vehicle became disabled. Rankin then fled on foot. The armed individual, now being assisted by others fitting the description of Freddy Gray's murderers continued to chase him with the use of trained dogs. Rankin, unable to outrun his aggressors, was eventually kidnapped and taken to a local internment camp. An unknown amount of Cannabis was present in Rankin's vehicle. Victims of prohibition are approached an average of once every 50 seconds in America and with threat of force they're property and freedom is taken. Cannabis has been decriminalized in North Carolina however, being in possession of more than 1.5 ounces is still considered a felony punishable by up to 8 months or 3 years of found to be in possession near a school zone. The assailants publicly identified themselves as members of the Matthews Police department working in collaboration with a K-9 unit. Local news outlet, WBTV published an article criminalizing Rankin. They reported that he has been charged with crimes including, Resist, Obstruct, and Delay, driving while licensed revoked, felony possession of marijuana, flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, reckless driving to endanger, resisting a public officer and simple possession of marijuana. It is unknown if Rankin was released on ransom or is still being held.
