A North Carolina father was arrested after a student at his son’s school made a false claim about a gun threat. His alleged crime? Cannabis possession. He is current;y being held on a $30k bond awaiting trial.
Police issued a search warrant at the man’s property after receiving a doctored photo from a student at Carrboro High School. The student had changed the wording on an Snapchat post made by the child of the man in question to lead police to believe that a violent threat was made. After forcibly entering the man's house the discovered the photo to be a fake.
Upon entry of Orontes Rogers’ home, police found less than 1 pound of cannabis separated by strain into multiple jars. They confiscated the cannabis as well as his firearms and booked him into custody at the Orange County Detention center. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, felony possession of marijuana and failure to store a firearm to protect a minor.
Charges have not been filed against the teen who made the dangerous false allegations. Police say they are investigating the incident separately and charges may be issued. Due to the age of the teens not much information has been released.
