Approached in his parked vehicle and sited for possession of cannabis, Shepherd was tased then fatally shot by police

Cortez Shepherd is approached by police for marijuana posession and is shot dead
"Police told 5 On Your Side they were doing a pedestrian check when they approached a parked vehicle that looked suspicious.
When officers saw a man inside the car, they believed he was in possession of marijuana. When asked to step out of the vehicle, the man refused to cooperate."
Police report that Shepherd attempted to flee and then was tased. After being tased he reportedly pulled a firearm and was then fatally shot in the chest by police
Witness to the murder, Shepherd's 7 year old daughter and her mother. 5 on your side reports:
"A 7-year-old girl was in the back seat of the car during the incident. The child was not hurt and now back with her mother.
Shepherd's mother says the girl was present because she went along with her mother to pick Cortez up from an area bar.
The 7-year-old saw Cortez struggling with police and ran to her mother nearby, according to officers."

The family speaks out
Shepherd's mother reports that police would not allow her to see the body of her son.
His mother sisters say he wasn't the type to pull a gun on police.
