Charged with Child Endangerment for growing cannabis

Armando Tapia, 32, and Leily Urizar, 24 were arrested for cannabis cultivation in California. Police charged them with child endangerment simply for having cannabis plants in the same house as their child.

Elk Grove Police Department Street Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at a home on the 8900 block of Mooney Road in Elk Grove California. Inside the couples home they found 1,380 cannabis plants in different stages of vegetation.

The couple was arrested and taken to the Sacramento County Jail. They were charged with Possession for sale of marijuana, cultivation of marijuana and willful child endangerment. Police reports indicate that “items related to cultivation and sales were found in a child's room”.

The report was not clear whether these items were something as simple as a glass of water that could have allegedly been used to water the plants, an empty plastic bag or a high tech extraction machine.

Reports did not indicate any signs of abuse to the child or medical attention needed. It is unknown if the child was released to family or taken into foster care.
