Enforcement detail leads to 87 vehicle stops, 32 ending in ticketing, over a dozen arrests over cannabis.
Jackson Police in NJ set up enforcement detail on October 18th at a parking lot near a local amusement park. Officers also patrolled the parking lot on foot & bicycle between 5:21 pm and 8:32 pm that evening
This detail was reportedly set up in order to catch illegal activity and distracted, aggressive and impaired driving. Officers issued 32 motor vehicle violations out of the 82 stops
12 people were arrested for cannabis possession, charged, processed & released stemming from 9 separate stops that were made. According to reports, in each incident people were approached or stopped for “suspicious activity” alone with the exception of the young man seen rolling a blunt.
Local radio station, 92.7 wobm reports on the cannabis arrests:
- 5:21 pm. Officers checking on suspicious activity in the parking lot, arrested a 23 year old male resident of West Babylon, New York who was charged with possession of marijuana. He was processed and released on summons pending a court appearance.
- 5:43 pm. Officers walking through the parking lot encountered a male subject who was rolling a marijuana blunt while seated in the passenger seat of a vehicle with the door open. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of additional marijuana. The 25 year old male resident of New York was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was processed and released on summons pending a court appearance.
- 6:48 pm. Officers checking on suspicious activity in the parking lot arrested a 24 year old male resident of Warminster, Pennsylvania for possession of marijuana. He was processed and released on summons pending a court appearance.
- 6:51 pm. Officers checking on suspicious activity in the parking lot arrested a 21 year old female resident of Wrightstown, who was charged with possession of marijuana along with also having two outstanding warrants for her arrest. She was processed and released on summons pending a court appearance.
- 7:10 pm. Officers checking on a suspicious activity in the parking lot in a vehicle arrested a 20 year old female resident of West Islip, New York who was charged with obstruction, a 20 year old male resident of Dix Hills, New York who was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and a 19 year old male resident of Dix Hills, New York who was also charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were processed and released on summons pending court appearances.
- 7:32 pm. Officers checking on suspicious activity in the parking lot arrested a 19 year old male resident of New York for possession of marijuana. He was processed and released on summons pending a court appearance.
- 8:13 pm. During a motor vehicle stop on Monmouth Road, a 21 year old male and an 18 year old female resident of Newark, New Jersey were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were processed and released on summons pending a court appearance.
- 8:29 pm. While checking on suspicious activity in the parking lot, officers arrested an 18 year old male resident of Union City, New Jersey and charged him with possession of marijuana. He was processed and released on summons pending a court appearance.
- 8:32 pm. While checking on suspicious activity in the parking lot, officers observed the occupant of a vehicle throw a plastic bag out of the window of the car. The bag was discovered to contain marijuana. A 19 year old male resident of Union City, New Jersey was charged with possession of marijuana. He was processed and released pending a court appearance.
Police say they will continue to crack down on this, and other areas around Jackson Township.
