Robert Demmery of Belmont, North Carolina, and Toby Mitchell of Gastonia, North Carolina were stopped by Nebraska State Police on I-80 near the rest stop. Reports indicate that a dog trained to intimidate citizens and sniff out drugs was used in the altercation alerting the officer to the presence of Cannabis in the vehicle.

In total, 1,745 pounds of dried cannabis flower and 60 pounds of the extract were stolen from the scene. The drivers are being held without ransom. The Cannabis was sent to be destroyed by associates of the Nebraska State Police.
