JUST UNDER 1 TON OF CANNABIS SEIZED AT BORDER

In just 1 weeks time police have confiscated nearly a ton of cannabis at US/Mexico border valuing $1.3 million.

Authorities in Brownsville TX have been busy this week according to media reports. In just a few days time authorities have confiscated and allegedly destroyed 1,700 lbs of cannabis.

News 4 Valley Central reports:

“On Tuesday, agents at the Brownsville station observed four suspected narcotic smugglers travelling north of the river. As agents attempted to arrest them, they abandoned the narcotics and fled back to Mexico.

In all, four bundles of marijuana, weighing more than 96 pounds, were seized. Estimated value of the drugs was $77,000.

Then on Friday night, Brownsville station agents received information of two suspected narcotic smugglers walking north of the Rio Grande. As agents approached, both smugglers dropped their bundles and attempted to flee.

In all, two bundles of marijuana, weighing more than 93 pounds, was seized. Also, one of the smugglers was apprehended thanks to the assistance of a Border Patrol K-9.”

Had these packages made their way safely into the US the product would’ve been distributed in what is commonly considered as the “black market” which is unregulated and offers no protection to those operating within. All of this resulting from the ban on organic plant matter the United States enacted in 1937.

According to the DPA, if this product were allowed to be distributed in a taxed and regulated market the country could profit an estimated $58 Billion in tax revenue annually. Instead, $47 billion is spent annually on a drug war that sees the arrest of 1,800 non-violent offenders daily.
