Public parking allowed? Only if you're not a cannabis user. Police from across the country are authorized to approach legally parked vehicles citing "suspicious behavior" which often lead to non-violent drug arrests.
You may have experienced it yourself or know of someone who has; you park your vehicle in a legally marked spot, maybe you want to rest or you just need to check your map or maybe you just have some time to kill. All of a sudden you hear a tap on the window. You glance over to see a person with their hand on their pistol asking you to wind down your window.
If not for the badge on this persons chest you'd likely flee the scene fearing for your safety but in this case doing that could lad you in handcuffs for evading police. So, you wind down your window and at some point the officer asks you to step out and consent to search. What do you do?
In most cases people comply and if you happen to be a cannabis user this can cost you tens of thousands of dollars in fines or even the loss of your freedom just for being, well... compliant. One man in Ohio didn't fare well in this scene over the weekend.
Cleveland.com reports "An officer on patrol investigated a suspicious car parked in the Skate Station lot at 1:36 a.m. Nov. 6. The officer smelled burned marijuana while speaking with the driver, who later admitted to smoking pot and turned over a jar filled with 10 ounces of marijuana. He was cited for drug abuse and drug paraphernalia possession."
So when they talk about the drug war on our streets they aren't lying. Every day cannabis users are forced to walk around with the paranoia that they can't even sit peacefully in their parked vehicle without the fear that someone may come put a gun to their head and confiscate their property. Hopefully you don't have any cash on you in the event this happens to you because it can be confiscated as "drug money" and submitted as evidence making it the property of the state.
Be careful out there folks, there is a war on peaceful citizens underway in the form of prohibition. How much longer will we stay quiet? How many more lives will we allow to be destroyed before we stand up as a collective and proclaim, "NO! We the people demand FREEDOM!"
